Вдруг кто-то окликнул
Меня из окна.
И я увидал
Голубого слона,
Который сказал:
— Поищи их на пристани.
Недавно туда
Прошагали туристами
Зелёная лошадь
И красная мышь.
Ну, топай скорее,
Чего ты стоишь?
В волнении я прибежал
На причал,
Где белый кораблик
Кормою качал.
Кораблик уже уходил
От причала.
Зелёная лошадь
У борта стояла,
А красная мышь
Мне махала с кормы…
С тех пор, к сожаленью,
Не виделись мы.
Ты скажешь: всё это
Неправда одна.
Не веришь?
Спроси голубого слона.

I walked and I asked
If somebody had seen
The mouse color red
And the horse color green.
Not one told me yes
Of the dozens I met:
“No, we’ve seen no one
Even like it,” they said.
“It’s only a dream,”
Smiled the folks of all ages,
A grumpy old fellow
Said, “That’s outrageous!”
I walked, odd and messy,
And looked all around,
I wasn’t embarrassed
And I’d never been:
“The mouse color red –
Why, has nobody found,
Has nobody found
The horse color green?”
And then someone called
From a window upstairs.
I looked up and saw
A blue elephant there,
Who said, “Look for them
At the wharf by the bay.
Just now, like two tourists,
They headed that way,
The red-colored mouse
And the green-colored horse.
Come on, don’t just stand here,
Get back on your course!”
I ran to the wharf,
Having no time to save.
A white little ship
Gently rocked by the wave
Had already sailed
And was not coming back.
I saw my green horse
Standing there on the deck.
Red mouse waved at me
As I stood on the shore…
Quite sadly, since then
I have seen them no more.
You’ll say, “I don’t know
What this tale is about!”
Go ask the blue elephant
